Easter and Spring Mini Session Ideas + Free Mini Session Template
Spring and Easter mini sessions are a great way to quickly fill your calendar between now and Easter. Mini sessions are short sessions, often between 20 - 30 minutes. They're offered at a lower cost, which makes them budget friendly for most people. There are several advantages to these types of sessions. You can set aside one day or an entire weekend and book several clients back-to-back. You only need to create the set-up once and you can use it multiple times.
We recommend offering two to three different set-ups. This will cater to a wider audience. Consider a spring photo backdrop, an Easter backdrop and an outdoor session. Clients may end up booking two or more different sessions! If studio space is tight, offer the themes on different dates. For example, you can offer a spring set up on Saturday. Then the following Saturday, offer an Easter set up. For more tips on hosting mini sessions check out this blog post here and here.
When offering mini sessions, being organized is key. Have your backdrops and props in advance. Be sure your set up is ready to go before clients arrive. Start marketing your sessions as far in advance as possible. We suggest at least 4 weeks. Have a model call or shoot photos of your children with each set up. These photos can be used to help market your spring mini sessions. Clients will also be able to see exactly what's being offered. Photos with a child in a cute outfit are more enticing.
We have a free spring mini session template download here, to help you advertise your sessions. You are free to use this on social media, in a newsletter, your blog, website, etc. If you share on your website or blog, a link back to this blog post (giving credit) is very much appreciated. Themed mini sessions, like spring and Easter, are typically available for children only. Be sure to let clients know how many children can be included in the session. Also, be sure to mention if adults are allowed to be in the portraits. If there are additional costs for extra children, be sure to provide this info in advance. This way, clients will not be surprised on the day of the session. You do not want to shoot a family portrait session for less than half of your normal rate. Offering spring mini sessions for children only may encourage clients to book family portraits. Spring is the perfect time to encourage clients to lock in their spot for your busy fall and Christmas session.
